When using another optical wired mouse (MS) everything is working without problem (also HID-compliant). Set the screensaver to "Wait 1 minute" and also check mark "On resume, display logon screen" if the option is available. I also set my PC to go to sleep after 1 hour and turn off the display after 30 minutes. Maybe I'll give Staples a chance and call them.
